Breast Cancer

Understanding Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide, though it can also occur in men. Early detection and advanced surgical techniques have significantly improved survival rates and quality of life for patients. Our comprehensive approach combines cutting-edge technology with compassionate care to provide the best possible outcomes.

Breast cancer develops when cells in the breast tissue begin to grow abnormally and uncontrollably. These cells can form tumors that may be felt as lumps or seen on imaging tests. The disease can manifest in various forms, including ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), invasive ductal carcinoma, invasive lobular carcinoma, and inflammatory breast cancer, each requiring tailored treatment approaches.

Each case is managed in close coordination with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists to ensure comprehensive, evidence-based, and well-coordinated care.

Surgical Procedures We Offer

Advanced surgical techniques tailored to your specific needs

Lumpectomy (Breast-Conserving Surgery)

A surgical procedure where only the tumor and a small margin of surrounding healthy tissue are removed, preserving most of the breast. This option is suitable for early-stage cancers and is often combined with radiation therapy. The procedure typically takes 1–2 hours and can be performed as an outpatient surgery. Recovery is generally faster than mastectomy, with most patients returning to normal activities within 2–3 weeks.

Mastectomy

Complete removal of one or both breasts, which may be necessary for larger tumors, multiple tumor sites, or patient preference. We offer several types including simple mastectomy, modified radical mastectomy, and skin-sparing or nipple-sparing mastectomy for immediate reconstruction. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically requires a 1–2 day hospital stay.

Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy

A minimally invasive procedure to determine if cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. A radioactive tracer or blue dye is injected near the tumor, and the first few lymph nodes that receive drainage (sentinel nodes) are removed and examined. This technique helps avoid unnecessary removal of multiple lymph nodes, reducing the risk of lymphedema.

Axillary Lymph Node Dissection

Removal of multiple lymph nodes from the armpit area when cancer has spread to the lymph nodes. This procedure provides important staging information and helps prevent cancer recurrence. Post-operative physical therapy is recommended to maintain arm mobility and prevent complications.

Oncoplastic Surgery

Advanced breast-conserving techniques that combine cancer removal with plastic surgery principles to achieve better cosmetic outcomes. This approach allows removal of larger tumors while preserving breast shape and symmetry, improving both physical and emotional recovery.

Our Treatment Approach

Our patient-centered approach begins with a thorough evaluation and detailed discussion of all treatment options. We believe in shared decision-making, ensuring that you understand your diagnosis, treatment choices, and expected outcomes. Treatment planning is done through close discussion and coordination with medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists to ensure individualized and evidence-based care.

Surgical treatment plays a central role in breast cancer management and is carefully timed with chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, or targeted therapy based on tumor biology and stage.

We utilize the latest minimally invasive and oncoplastic techniques to minimize scarring and preserve breast aesthetics whenever possible. For patients requiring mastectomy, we work closely with plastic surgeons to offer immediate or delayed breast reconstruction options, including implant-based reconstruction, autologous tissue reconstruction using your own tissue, or a combination approach.

Throughout your treatment journey, our team ensures close follow-up, clear communication, and coordinated care, helping patients navigate investigations, surgery, and recovery with confidence and clarity.
